COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT OPTIONS:
Conventional metal braces
Metal braces are the standard brace used for all age groups. The brace is made of stainless steel, may be self-ligating (Damon, Innovation) or require some form of tie to hold in the orthodontic wire.
Cosmetic braces
Coloured braces are metal braces with a coloured plastic tie to hold the wire into the brace. There are MANY colours to choose from and they get changed at each adjustment so you can try them all.
Ceramic braces
Ceramic braces are made of porcelain and are either clear or a colour that closely mimics the shade of the tooth. They are every bit as good as metal braces although somewhat more fragile (usually of little consequence) and aesthetically more superior. Ceramic braces are often contraindicated for the bottom teeth.
Invisalign
Invisalign® is a series of clear, nearly invisible removable aligners, computer designed and manufactured which gradually move teeth without the need for braces. Originally intended for simple adult treatments, the technique is now available for teens and for more complex cases. Indeed, many of our lingual cases are managed with Invisalign® instead. Age, case suitability and patient compliance are important factors in a successful outcome.
Functional Appliances
Functional Appliances are normally removable appliances that are used for the correction of bite problems in the pre-teens. There are many varied designs to suit the problem being addressed. The Twin Block appliance is an example where we wish to improve the lower jaw position and protrusive top teeth.
Expanders
Expanders can be removable or fixed to the teeth and can be for either jaw however usually the top teeth. Expanders widen the jaw, improve the bite and provide room for developing teeth.
